This week in preschool....September 2-5, 2014

"Forgive us our sins"  Luke 11:4
"The Bible says, "The Lord...forgives all your sins."  Psalm 103:2-3
This week in Jesus Time we are learning about our friends and feelings.  We are learning to use our words rather that actions to express our feelings.  We are also learning to say, "I'm sorry", and the other person responds with, "I forgive you."  Our best friend, Jesus forgives us! We talk about thumbs up and thumbs down choices, teddy bear hands and teddy bear words as well as porcupine or prickly hands and words.   Each day we pray for those children who are absent.

This week in Small group we were triangle detectives and practiced making triangles out of craft sticks and strips of paper.  We made pictures using tangrams and expanded our use of shapes.  We are learning how to use scissors, how to hold them properly and how to hold the paper as we cut.  We also did a science activity and saw how baking soda reacted with vinegar.  The vinegar was colored and the children used eye droppers to drop the vinegar onto heaping spoonfuls of baking soda.  Using an eye dropper helps children build their hand muscles to get ready for writing.  We are also practicing drawing our shapes on our iPads.  We made shapes out of playdough by rolling out snakes, then used the playdough to make our own Green Monsters.  Using playdough helps strengthen our hand muscles, and fine motor development.

This week we have rice in our Sensory Table.

Here are some of the activities that we enjoy throughout our day:  Light Table, Books and Puzzles, Building, Housekeeping, Science Center with the magnets, Writing Center, where we had stickers, and those help our fine motor skills, Trains, Dinosaurs, and Princesses.

We enjoy music and movement...Truck Stop, Beethoven's 5th, Alabama Mississippi, and Hands are for Clapping by Jim Gill.

This week we read...

Next week we will be learning about the letter A.  If you would like to bring in pictures of objects that begin with A, we will glue them onto our large letter A  that will be hanging up with our classroom alphabet.  Each week we will have a different letter.  The month of September we will be learning about A, G, Z, and H.  Each week we will glue pictures on the large classroom letter, so you are welcome to bring in pictures each week for that week's letter.
