This week in Preschool....January 27-3, 2014

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart.  Psalm 9:1
This week we have been learning about Jesus healing the 10 lepers, and only one came back to say thank you.  The children enjoyed acting out the story by having their hands wrapped, like they had leprosy, and they initiated making 10 lepers out of craft sticks, after I shared the story using them as props.  One child even told me they need 11 because they needed to add Jesus.  It is so amazing to see them learn and to want to share God's Word.  We have been singing our memory verse using the musical scale, (we omit with my whole heart).

This week we made mittens by spraying liquid water color on them and adding salt for some shimmer.  When we use spray bottles, it helps our hand muscles get stronger. We made winter pictures using puff paint that the children mixed together.  Some made snow drifts or snowmen, others made white outs.  We made heart window catchers, where we traced a heart shape, then spread glue on the heart, and tore tissue paper and placed it on the glue, then after they dried we cut them out and added string.  We easel painted, and we made bird feeders to put outside.  It was good practice for us to use a knife(craft stick) to spread the peanut butter around then roll it in the bird seed.

Everyday we look for our name, and this week we are tracing our name with our finger and then we are trying to write them on the iPad.  We have also been reading stories on the iPad.  We also watched the penguins at the St. Louis Zoo.  They have a web cam on from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. everyday.

In Small Group this week, we played I Spy (a math game) where we found objects on our white paper then we talked about size discrimination, color, letters, numbers, we counted and sorted.  We did a clothespin count, by putting spring clothespins on a paper plate.  We had to put the corresponding number of clothespins on the plate.  We made cards for people that we know are sick.  We made x-rays, and talked about our bones.  We also copied a 14 block structure.

We are enjoying our valentine sensory table, our bingo dabbers, writing center, playdough,  blocks, and housekeeping area.

We look forward to our jobs each day; one of our jobs is the Polyspot helper, who puts out the correct number of colored spots for our friends to sit on.

We also like to share with our Show and Share bags.  The children are working on their language skills when they give clues, and those that are listening are building their listening skills and trying to decipher from the clues what may be in the bag.

We also like to check on our hermit crab, Speedy.

This week we read....

The Missing Mitten Mystery
The Hat
It's Snowy and You Know It, Clap Your Paws

On Friday, February 14 we will have a special Pancakes and Pajamas Day.  The children are invited to wear their pajamas to school, please make sure that they can wear shoes as we will still go to the gym.  For snack that day we will make pancakes.

All children bring valentine cards for their classmates.  We have 19 children, I encourage you to have your child write their name on the cards and leave the envelopes blank as they can be postal workers and deliver them in their classmates bags on Thursday and Friday.

Book orders were put in backpack on Wednesday and Thursday, I will submit the orders on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7.

Grandparents Day will be Thursday, March 6, watch for more information! (This is the date for the families that attend the Concordia Campus ECE.)
