This week in Preschool....January 22-24, 2014

This is my beloved Son.  Matthew 3:17
This week we have been leaning about the baptism of Jesus.  Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River.  Jesus washes our sins away and gives us new life.  He is perfect and did what we couldn't do. We were so blessed to have some of the 8th graders come and share their stories for children about the birth of Jesus, the visit of the wisemen, and Jesus' baptism .

This week we continue our Winter Theme and added learning about Penguins, and the children have enjoyed it!  We have learned some fun facts about penguins.  We even waddled around like a penguin.  We made snowmen out of milk jugs.  Look for them in our winter wonderland next week.  We made cork painted snowflakes, and we easel painted.

During our Small Group/Center Time we made special delivery letters for our classmates, and to our special friends at CCLS-U.  We also practiced writing our names in shaving cream.  When we made the postcards for our CCLS-U friends it helps our reading and writing skills.  We put a sticker of Jesus on, then a heart sticker, and we tried our best to write YOU, then we signed our names.  At this age picture clues help children read/tell the story.  They get very excited when they can read!

We made clean mud, which was so much fun.  We used our toilet paper that we had torn up, and we did a little more tearing, then Mrs. Larson grated some Ivory soap, and we added it to the toilet paper, then we added water a little at a time, and mixed it with our hands until we made clean mud. We learn about the process it takes to get the end result.

Learning about Penguins and making clean mud helped us explore and experiment, and find out about nature.

This week we played a sorting by color game on the iPad and we looked at information and pictures about penguins.

When the children play at the housekeeping it enables them to:

  • construct the world as she/he sees it
  • act out feelings and emotions in a comfortable setting
  • role-play real life situations
  • practice language and social skills
  • interact with other children in an informal setting
  • plan and work with others

We emptied out our rice table and we have added a Valentine theme sensory table.

It is always great to see the children work together at the block area, dramatic play, train table, or any area where they are cooperating, sharing, and building their language skills working with each other.

This week we read...

Five Little Penguins Slipping on the Ice
