This week in Preschool.....October 14-18, 2013

You, O Lord, are good and forgiving.  Psalm 86:5

This week in Jesus time we are learning about Joseph and how his father, Jacob loved him more than his brothers, and gave him a coat of many colors.  We learned that God had a special plan for Joseph to help tell what Pharoah's dreams meant and to help the people when there was a famine, and then Joesph was reunited with his family, and he forgave his brothers for selling him into slavery.

This week in art we mixed up chocolate pudding, then we painted with it, and of course we ate it.  We easel painted, and we finger painted candy corn, we made pumpkins by putting 3 fingers in the paint, and we made paper plate pumpkins.

At center time this week we had pumpkin pounding, where we hammered golf tees into one of our pumpkins, we practiced our one to one correspondence counting with wooly sheep and the barn and the corn game.  We did weaving on our frame, and we have been making comparisons and talking about our families and how many people are in our families.

This week we read.....
The Leaves on the Trees
It's Pumpkin Time
Hibernation Station
The Littlest Pumpkin
Pumpkin, Pumpkin

NO SCHOOL WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 23-FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25.
Please make sure you have signed up for a conference time on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.  You should have received an email that allow you to sign up in google docs.

This week in Preschool.....October 7-11, 2013

I waited patiently for the Lord.  Psalm 40:1

This week we continued to learn about Abraham and Sarah and how they were patient.  We talked about how we can be patient, too.

This week we easel painted, made a collage from borders, cut out a pumpkin and glued on string and torn paper to represent the stringy yucky inside and the seeds, and we tore paper to make pumpkin patches.

We continue to have the bean table and the end of last week and this week we washed our pumpkins using a squirt bottle and toothbrushes, and then did an experiment to see if our pumpkin would sink or float.

During our center time this week we matched clothes, we blended water color with starch, we made an elevation station, found likenesses and differences in items and did texture matching.

On Friday the Kirkwood Fire Department came to visit our class.  We got to see the fire truck, and the firefighters showed us their suits so if we ever need their help, we don't need to be afraid.  We also learned about stop, drop, and roll if our clothes catch on fire and when to call 9-1-1.

It was also exciting to see one of our hermit crabs, Shelly, come completely out of the shell looking for a bigger shell for its new house.

This week we read...
I'm Like You, You're Like Me
I'm Not Ready
1,2,3 Peas
1-2-3-Va-Va-Vroom
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves
