This week in preschool....March 24-28, 2014

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised.  Psalm 145:3

This week we learned about Jesus' triumphal entry to Jerusalem.  We made a praise banner, and we sang Ho, Ho, Hosanna, because they people shouted Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna in the Highest when Jesus came into Jerusalem riding on the colt of a donkey, and they waved palm branches.  Hosanna means save us, which is what Jesus did, because He died on the cross and took all of our sins away.  In the next weeks we will be learning more about the events that led up to Easter.

This week we painted using pringle cans as our paint brush, when you shape them into an egg shape, you dip the end in paint and you have Easter eggs.

We made light catcher kites with tissue paper.

We painted our hands white and made a cross shape out of our handprint.  After reading Mouse Paint, we easel painted using only red, yellow, and blue, and we learned how we can mix the primary colors to make new colors.

We made mice out of hearts to go along with our story, Mouse Count, where we counted forward and backward.

This week we have plastic eggs, Easter grass, and some chicks in our sensory table.

All of our small group activities this week we used the plastic eggs.  We did capital and lower case letter matching.

We did a science experiment by putting a spoonful of baking soda into each half of an egg, then we added droppers of colored vinegar and we had bubbling.

We added items to our eggs to see how many of each it would take to make the egg sink.

We matched pom poms with each egg color, and we had to use tweezers to help our fine motor skills.

We used colored eggs to make patterns.

It wonderful to see how each child has grown this year.  I love to watch them play with the dramatic play items and come up with their own story line.

This week we have been learning how to write our names using a capital letter at the beginning and the rest in lower case.  We trace our names on tracing paper for practice.

This week we read....
Clifford's Spring Cleaning
Wake Up, Its Spring
The Wind Blew
Z is for Moose
Mouse Paint
Mouse Count
