Preschool News...August 13-15, 2014

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me."  This week we are starting with Jesus Blesses the children.  We learned that Jesus welcomes us all and loves us all, no matter what color hair, eyes, or skin we have.  We are also singing lots of songs, so if you hear your little one singing encourage them to share them with you and if you know it sing along.

Welcome to Preschool!  I am excited to start another year! We have already been learning the daily routine, doing our jobs, and we have been doing some get to know you activities.  We took our first day of school pictures, and we took pictures of our feet, then Mrs. Larson made a class version of Pete the Cat's Rocking in my School Shoes, which allows the children to try to guess who's shoes, then put a child's photo with that child's name in print.  This is great for them to start recognizing their names and being able to recognize other children's names.  See if you can guess or have your child guess!

We have easel painted, made handprints, drew a self-portrait, and painted.with rings.  We use different art media to give the children a variety of experiences.  This week we used  markers to draw with, and paint brushes to paint at the easel, and rings that we dipped in paint.

In our sensory table we have pom poms, tweezers, and clear cups.  Tweezers build strength in small hand muscles, dexterity in hands and fingers, and helps build hand/eye coordination.  I have seen children taking the cups and sorting by color, and I have seen the children using the tweezers to grasp them pom poms.

We even incorporate learning into snack time.  The day we had cheez its, I asked the children to put 5 crackers on their napkin.  We also allow the children to pour their water into their cups from small pitchers, which helps them learn math skills.

We have also been enjoying our books and puzzles time.

We have been sharing our family photos during Show and Share, and this helps the children to develop their language and listening skills.

At the end of each day we read a story and we have music and movement, here we are doing the Beanie Bag Dance, and putting the bean bag on the body part that the music tells us.  We are leaning our body parts, balancing, and listening skills.  We will learn other songs throughout the year.

Next week I will start sending Brownie Bear home with one child each day, and I ask you to write in his journal what you did with him, then please return him and the journal the next day that you come to class.  It is great to have the children draw a picture if they are able, or take a picture and put it in, then the children will share it then day they bring him back.

This week we read:
Clifford's First School Day
Curious George's First Day of School
Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes
