This week in Preschool...March 31- April 4, 2014

We love because He first loved us.  1 John 4:19

This week in Jesus Time we learned about the woman who anointed Jesus' head and feet with very expensive perfume.  She did this to honor Jesus.  We also learned about Jesus washing the disciples feet.  Jesus did this to show the disciples how they are to serve others.  Mrs. Larson washed the children's feet.

In Art we easel painted, sponge painted cross scenes, painted eggs using colored corn syrup, made finger print flowers ( pussy willows), and finger painted, but made a design with tape before we painted then we removed the tape after we had finished painting to see a "peeling" design.

We continue to practice writing our names each day, we began writing them with a capital letter followed by lower case letters.

In Small group this week, we played a game using play dough.  I had 3 different shapes set out and we estimate to see which used the most play dough.  We found out after measuring that they were all the same amount of play dough just in different shapes.  We read It Begins with an A, and used the clues to figure out what the object was that began with that letter, then we found the letter on one of our plastic eggs. We did a paper drop to see if paper falls faster crumpled up or plain.  It helped us learn about cause and effect.  We cleaned pennies, where we learned some problem solving.  We also did an activity called Catching Air, which we learned more about air.

We love to explore all the areas in our classroom, and we use every opportunity to incorporate learning experiences in.  We had animal crackers for snack and we sorted them and talked about where they live.  We see some great engineering when they make tracks, and build with legos and blocks.  They are able to use their fine motor skills to open and close plastic eggs, and they will hide chicks inside for the next friend to find.  We see the children acting out life skills in the dramatic play area, and at the light table we see letters begin used to make names or sorting, and beads being strung.  We used our iPads to work on an app called Lunch box and we worked on size, color, beginning letter, and matching. We looked up information about sloths and watched you tube videos about them being rescued.

This week we read:
From Head to Toe
The Letters are Lost
Tiptoe Joe
The Earth and I
"Slowly, Slowly, Slowly," said the Sloth

The children had come up with their own ideas of where the letters might have been lost, so we have decided to make our own book about the Letters are Lost.  I can't wait to see the finished product.

Book Orders will be submitted on April 8.  I have also sent home the May fliers and will submit them also on the 8th.  This will be our last book order for the school year, as we have a Scholastic Book Fair at school in May.

PATT Volunteer celebration and Parent education night is Thursday, April 24.  Please RSVP if you are able to attend.

Thank you to everyone who has saved and shared their recycling treasures with us, we are well stocked for the remainder of the school year. Thank You!
