This Week in Preschool.....November 4-8, 2013

God is with you wherever you go.   Joshua 1:9

This week in Jesus time we are learning about Caleb and Joshua who were 2 of the 12 spies that reported what the promised land was like.  Caleb and Joshua reported that the land had wonderful crops, land, and that they were willing to go back and claim the land, however, the other ten reported that the cities had walls, the people were strong and there were large numbers of them.  God was displeased with the ten spies and the people had to wander for 40 years, and the ten spies did not get to enter the promised land.  God is powerful and caring enough to handle our enemies-sin, death, and the devil.

This week we made vegetable prints using a pepper, cucumber, mini pumpkin, and a gourd.  All of those had seeds, some were tiny and some were big.  We even got to taste toasted pumpkin seeds from our pumpkin.
We made bean pictures, easel painted, made a picture by drawing with a q-tip that had oil, and then watercolored over the top...they didn't mix.  We also used aluminum foil and we crumpled it, rolled it , twisted it, and squeezed it, then dipped it in glue and put it on our paper. We used beans to make a picture. We made binoculars to pretend to be spies, and talked about what they saw in the promised land, and used it to find the goose and the butterfly on every page of our story, Barnyard Banter.

In Small group this week we made grape clusters with bingo dabbers and counted how many grapes were on the cluster, we also talked about how most grape clusters look like triangles.  We played I-spy, and had to use the clues to find the right item.   We put the corresponding number of acorns on the leaves for one to one correspondence counting, and we worked with lacing card to help our eye-hand coordination.

We love to read books and put puzzles together!  We build with the blocks, and the engineers are hard at work!  We made grapes with our purple grape smelling play dough.  Rolling that play dough helps strengthen our hand muscles.  We still play in our office center and and our house keeping area. We emptied our straws and we have scissors and lots of colored construction paper scraps to help us practice cutting.  We also got to use our iPads and match letters, finish the pattern, counting objects, and puzzles.

We enjoy being able to go to the gym on the rainy days this week.  We are running and stretching.  We are balancing on the balance beam, we are crawling, and we are catching and throwing balls, which helps us with eye hand coordination.

We had clementine oranges for snack, and it was great to peel those by ourselves, and strengthen our hand muscles.

We also learn each day when we do our jobs!

Everyday we end our day with songs that have great repetition or lots of actions. Many times those actions will help us cross the mid line.

We let Speedy and Crabby out and watched as Speedy crawled around our paper, and Crabby just stayed in its shell.
